Consulting/Workshop Requests

The authors of the book Creating Parent and Family Involvement: 101 Ideas for Teachers Who Care welcome the opportunity to help school districts, schools, parent-teacher organizations, educational service agencies, state departments of education, and others address their parent and family involvement needs. Customized seminars or workshops are available for a fee. Prices for speaking engagements and workshops are negotiated.

Each workshop is customized to meet the needs of the target participants. A maximum number of participants in a workshop may be negotiated to ensure a high-quality, activity-oriented experience for participants. While the authors welcome numerous speaking arrangements at conferences, etc., six types of workshops are commonly offered:

1. High Schools (Smaller Learning Communities projects) – A special workshop designed for the Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) team of the high school to learn how to implement the 5-step process, including the school self-assessment, teacher tips for parents, and ideas in the book.

2. School Districts Principals - A one-day, (drive-in) activity-oriented workshop for all elementary school principals and/or other middle and high school administrators in the school district to learn how to implement the 5-step process, including the school self-assessment, and ideas in the book.

3. School Teams - A one-day (drive-in), activity-oriented workshop for 2-person teams from school districts served by a regional educational service agency (e.g., educational cooperative, intermediate unit). Each school district team includes the school principal (or assistance principal) and teacher who will be leading the school’s parental involvement initiative. The school completes the self-assessment prior to the workshop, so team members can use “their data” in workshop activities. Price for analyzing self-assessment results is included in workshop fee.

4. Title 1 Coordinators - A one-day (drive-in), activity-oriented workshop for Title 1 coordinators in school districts. Hosted by a regional educational service agency, state department of education or other entity, Title 1 coordinators will learn how to implement the 5-step process, including the school self-assessment, and other ideas in the book to increase their technical assistance capacity for helping schools with the parental involvement initiative.

5. Career & Technical Administrators - A one-day (drive-in), activity-oriented workshop for administrators of career and technical education center or programs. Hosted by a regional educational service agency, state department of education or other entity, school and district administrators will learn how to implement the 5-step process, including the school self-assessment, and other ideas in the book to increase parental involvement in career and technical programs.

6. Parent Resource Centers - A one-day (drive-in), activity-oriented workshop for school leaders that are being assisted by the state’s Parent Resource Center. Participants hosted by the Parent Resource Center in a state for leaders of client schools to learn how to implement the 5-step process, including the school self-assessment, teacher tips for parents, and other ideas in the book.
